| The Educational Specifications and
Standards for Facilities shall control and provide the basic guidelines
in the acquisition and development of school sites and in the master
planning, designing, and construction of facilities for all public
schools in the State of Hawaii. The documents below, referred to
as the EDSPECS, were developed to meet the need for a comprehensive
guide for consultants, the Department of Education, the community, other
government agencies, and the public in the design and planning of new
schools and additions to existing schools.
The EDSPECS are divided into three volumes, for
use at each of the three educational levels: elementary,
middle/intermediate and high. Although much of the information for
school design is the same across levels, the volumes are meant to be
used independently. Each volume is categorized into various
chapters which provide the appropriate design criteria for a school. |
